Stadtbibliothek Trier

1

Located on Weberbach, the Stadtbibliothek (city library) is a research library dedicated to the conservation and study of valuable old books. Out of a total stock of approx. 385,000 volumes, the stacks here contain 2,600 manuscripts, 2,500 incunabula (pre-1500 works printed by Gutenberg), 38,000 volumes dating to the 16th and 17th centuries as well as substantial stocks of 18th and 19th century printed works. The 95,000 pre-1850 printed items stored in its stacks make the Stadtbibliothek Trier a practically inexhaustible source of material for scholarly research. Through regular events such as lectures and guided tours, publications and items on loan to international exhibitions, the Stadtbibliothek makes sure its treasures, among them the Ada Gospel, the Codex Egberti and a Gutenberg bible, remain very much in the public eye. As soon as the renovation of the treasury is completed, the Stadtbibliothek will once again have a permanent exhibition room worthy of its unique heritage.
