The technical side

Forty-five incunabula have been selected for restoration by experienced specialist firms in Germany and France, working in close cooperation and using both traditional and modern methods. Their progress will be closely monitored by the research programme team of Cologne University of Applied Sciences. The specialist firms are technically equipped to make digital images of the books under restoration without damaging them further. Besides the unique opportunity to digitalize the books while they are actually in the course of being restored, this method of documentation also provides a means of making the knowledge contained in the books accessible to a more general public.

Particular attention will be paid to didactic aspects of the presentation of the material. For this purpose, well-known experts on early printed works have agreed to offer their services to the Libri Europae Project.
